Injection is the act of administering a liquid most especially into a person’s body using a needle and syringe.it is called Shot in US English and Jab in UK English.
Since the 1600s,Injections has been used to refer to “Forcing a liquid into a person’s body” from the latin “inicere” meaning to “to throw in” or “to throw on”.
Syringe are frequently used in clinical medicine to administer injections.
An Injection is considered to be a type of administering of drugs through the parenteral route i.e the routes of administeration which does not involve the absorption in the digestive tract.
The pain of most injection is usually brief, however for most people the fear of getting an injection is usually worse than the injection itself.
Types of injections
1.Subcutaneous Injection:This is usually admistered as a bolus into the subcutis, the layer of the skin directly below the dermis and the epidermis.
These types of injection are effective in the administration of medications like insulin, morphine and goserelin.some subcutaneous injections come prefilled with the syringe attached.
Subcutaneous injection tends to be less painful than intramuscular injection, this is because the needles are smaller and donot require having to push through as much tissue.
2.Intramuscular Injection:This is the injection of substance into the muscle. The intramuscular route allows the rapid absorption of drugs into the circulation system, using the correct injection technique and selecting the correct site will minimise the risk of complications.
Intramuscular injection is usually given in the buttocks, through or the upper arm area.If the medication to be administered is more than 1cc, the injection is usually given in the buttocks.
